Summer Course at UEA

Norwich’s greatest treasure is its unrivalled collection of medieval churches – the greatest number of surviving in any town in northern Europe. This course will examine them as a group, and address such questions as why there are so many, and who built them, why they are all so different, as well as their furnishings, the people who used them and are buried in them, and the churches that have been lost to us over the years.

We shall also examine the effects of the Reformation, of the nineteenth century restorations, and also current ways of dealing with a collection of thirty-one churches. This will all be illustrated by extracts from the documents of the parishes.

Two full-day trips will enable us to examine most of the churches in some detail.

The price of the residential course is £650 per person, which includes en-suite accommodation, three full meals per day, some evening entertainment, excursion costs and teaching sessions. The course is also available on a non residential basis. The price is £450 per person which includes lunch and an evening meal, some evening entertainment, excursions and teaching sessions. This option is suitable should you wish to stay with friends or are local to the Norwich area.
